When using LABELVIEW Network with a Terminal Service session or via Remote Desktop, I get an error that says "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime error Program:\C:Program Files\LV8\LV.exe abnormal program termination"

The error message shown above is due to a security upgrade/patch from Microsoft that released for Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4. The security upgrade makes the ability to create global objects a privileged operation. Because of this, an application running an arbitrary Terminal Service session must have SeCreateGlobalPrivilege enabled in order to create a file-mapping object.

LABELVIEW creates a kernel object to handle the number of licenses currently in use. To work around the problem, Terminal Service or Remote Desktop users or the user group must be given the "Create Global Objects" privilege. This can be accomplished by following the procedure below on the host machine:

  1. From the Start menu, open Start > Settings >Control Panel.

  2. Open the Administrative Tools control panel.

  3. Open the Local Security Settings tool.

  4. In the left side of the window expand Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.

  5. Right-click Create Global Objects in the right side of the window and select Properties.

  6. Click the Add User or Group button.

  7. The Select Users or Groups dialog box will open. In the box, type the users or user groups you wish to allow to run LABELVIEW. When you are finished, click OK.

  8. You will see the users or groups you added listed in the Create Global Objects Properties dialog box. Click Apply, then OK to exit.

LABELVIEW can now run remotely or over a network environment for user groups you specify.
