How do I create a picture file database in CODESOFT 7 or higher?

  1. Open the Database Manager by selecting Start > Programs > CODESOFT > Database Manager.

  2. Select Database > New Database > dBase5 .

  3. A browse dialog box will open. Browse to the directory in which you want to save the new database file and click OK.

  4. Select Table > Create a New Table.

  5. The table definition dialog will open. Add a field to the table by entering a meaningful name in the Field Name box. Select Text for the data type and leave the field length at its default of 50. Click Add to create the new field.

  6. When you are finished adding fields to the table, click OK. A prompt will appear asking you to name the table. Enter a meaningful name in this prompt and click OK.

  7. Click the down arrow next to the magnifying glass and select the table you created in step 6. Click Add and the cursor will move to the space next to the table name in the area below the magnifying glass.

  8. Enter the entire file path of the picture file you wish to add to the database. Click OK to save the record. You must add a record for each picture file you wish to make available for printing. Once you are finished adding records to your database, you can close the Database Manager. Your data is automatically saved.

  9. You need to create an ODBC connection to your new database. Please refer to http://www.teklynx.com/products//labels/faq/codesoft_faq_719.html for directions. Once you have created the ODBC connection to your database, select Merge > Create/Edit query.

  10. The query definition screen will open. Click the ODBC radio button and select the appropriate data source from the dropdown box. You will then be able to select the table you created in step 6. When the table is selected, the fields in the table will be available on the right side. Select the fields you want included in the query and click OK.

  11. The document browser will show your query as a database object.

  12. Select the field you created that contains the file path of the pictures. Drag this field from the document browser onto your label and release the mouse button.

  13. A menu will appear asking you if you would like to drop the database field as Text, Barcode, or Image. Highlight Image and click once.

  14. The variable will appear as an image on your label.
